A simple shoebox filled with Christmas goodies could change the life of a child forever. With the help of Samaritan's Purse, our church is collecting boxes to send all over the world as a way to open the door for sharing the story of Jesus.
Please return boxes to the Worship Center Foyer by Sunday, November 11. If you are unable to return your box by Sunday, November 11 you will need to drop it off at a regional collection center. The nearest collection center is at Huntsville's First Baptist Church.
FAQs about Operation Christmas Child
What kind of things should I pack?
Start with items like small school supplies, toys, hard candy, toiletries, and clothing. Then, add personal touches like a letter to the child or photo of yourself or family. Please don’t include war-related items (ex, toy guns), chocolate, medicines, breakables, or liquids of any kind. 2017 UPDATE: PLEASE DO NOT PACK TOOTHPASTE OR CANDY ITEMS.
Can I use my own box? How big can it be?
Yes, you can use your own shoe box or purchase a plastic box. Plastic boxes can be reused by the family for storage. Either way, please use a standard shoe box size. If you bring a large box, it will likely be taken apart and repacked in separate boxes.
What do I do after I pack a box?
Pick up a “How to Pack a Box” brochure in the Worship Center. Place $7 for shipping in the attached envelope to be included in the box. Cut out the attached packing label and place it on the outside of the box. If you would like, you can visit samaritanspurse.org/occ and print a special tracking label to place on the outside of the box. This will help you know where the box ends up!
What happens to my box once I turn it
All boxes are taken to the regional collection center at First Baptist Huntsville. Then they make their way to the processing center in Dallas where they’re checked and placed on planes to be distributed around the world. Operation Christmas Child works with local pastors and churches to distribute boxes in person to children in need.
Is there another way to participate?
Yes! You can always give by donating money or packing a box online at samaritanspurse.org.
