At University Heights, we believe that we exist to make Jesus known and do that by cultivating people who make Jesus known through the lives we live and the conversations we have.

As we turn to Scripture, John 15 records the evening before Jesus would face the cross. He shared the most important factors that would insure his loved ones lived a life that mattered. From this passage, we learn that a healthy follower of Christ grows through three distinct relationships:

  1. An abiding relationship with Jesus
  2. A caring relationship with His church
  3. An engaging relationship with the world

The third relationship Jesus describes is with “the world.” It isn’t a pretty picture. Jesus uses words like “hate” and “persecute.” Simply put, the world flows in a different direction than followers of Christ. Opposition exists for those who follow Christ by the very nature of a sin filled world. Yet Jesus declares that two things will occur. “When the Counselor comes, the One I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me. You will also testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” First, the “Spirit of Truth” will testify about him. Second, we will testify as well. So, we must ask, how do I testify?

Over the next few weeks, we will provide these simple guides to help you identify the five people you will commit to praying for in 2019. The first step is simply identifying the places you go.

Think about the places you go. We refer to them as intersections. It’s the places where your life intersects with the lives of others around you.  It can be in a coffee shop, at work, at school, on the golf course, in the gym, at the grocery store, or in your favorite restaurant. Take some time to list all the places you frequent. If, as you’re listing, you realize that you’re limited to home, work, and church, stop and spend time asking the Lord to open up new opportunities and intersections in your life.

We pray that you are bold in your requests and open to whatever direction the Lord calls you to. If you would like one of our ministers to walk you through this process, pray with and for you, or answer further questions, please email us at  and we will connect you with someone. It will be an exciting year as we seek to share the Gospel with those in our community!
